About Sun Star Restaurant
Since 1996, Sun Star Restaurant has been serving Chinese and Canadian specialties to the Coquitlam community. Those dishes include their popular breakfasts such as “Ed’s Breakfast” (now SunStar Breakfast) which has been a fixture since the opening in 1996, as well as their A, B and C combos which include sweet ‘n sour pork and other Chinese favourites. Though many years changed, the philosophy of “the customer comes first” has remained constant over the years.
Heidi, the restaurant’s manager and wife of the owner, says the restaurant, now a family-run restautant, has supported the community in many ways over the years. For instance, the restaurant donated gift certificates to the Centennial High School Dry Grad, which students could use to purchase meals after the event. Sun Star Restaurant also supports local churches by donating food and restaurant gift certificates, Cops for Cancer, and many more organizations.
The establishment has had so much success over the last five years since Heidi and her husband bought it in 2013 and they hope to continue serving the community with their faithful costumer service.
“It’s a community and everyone comes here to visit each other,” says Sue. “(Many of them) have been coming here since the beginning and they don’t like change very much,” she laughs. Today, the restaurant is a fixture in the community with many regulars and generations of family filling its comfortable booths and tables. Three groups in particular come in week after week, Sue says. There are a group of retirees who used to work at nearby Dairyland; a group of truck drivers and an antique car club.

The restaurant also offers catering to large parties, which includes free karaoke and a private room to the bar and lounge.
