Our Story

More than Great Food

Since 1996, Sun Star Restaurant has proudly served the Coquitlam community with a unique blend of Chinese and classic Canadian cuisine.  What began as a small, humble restaurant run by a hard-working husband-and-wife team supporting three children has grown into a beloved local favourite, rooted in family values and love for our food. These dishes include our popular breakfasts such as “Sun Star Breakfast” which has been a fixture since the opening in 1996, as well as our A, B and C combos which include sweet ‘n sour pork and other Chinese favourites. Our philosophy of “the customer comes first” and "making customers happy", have remained constant over nearly 30 years.

Today, our restaurant is a fixture in the community with many regulars and generations of family filling in its comfortable booths and tables. Some of our loyal customers who have been here since the beginning includes a group of retirees who used to work at nearby Dairyland; a group of truck drivers, Men's shelter club, and an Antique Car Club.

Heidi and Alan, the restaurant’s owner and manager have supported the community in many ways over the years. For instance, the restaurant has donated gift certificates to the Centennial Highschool Dry Grad, which students could use to purchase meals after the event, local churches by donating restaurant gift certificates, Cops for Cancer - Tour De Rock for first responders to fundraise life-saving pediatric cancer research, and many more.

We are also honoured to take part in local events like the annual Dumpling Festival, where our Spicy Wontons have become a crowd favourite, and the Taste of Tri-Cities, where we showcase the flavours that define us.

Our establishment have had many successes for the past nearly three decades thanks to our customers and staffs. From our family to yours, thank you for being part of our journey.
